ABOUT

Greed is exterminating life on our planet

Look around at the global geopolitical instability, mass extinction events, income inequality, life-threatening climate change, and endless military conflict to name a few.

We’re an Amsterdam based climate action organisation that is fundraising towards opening the world’s first ever non-profit weed coffeeshop. Our vision is for all profits to be reinvested into climate action by supporting indigenous communities in the Amazon rainforest to protect their land.

In the meantime, we organise events around Amsterdam to educate a community of climate-concerned individuals and fundraise for our partners. We’re also actively building our network of indigenous communities day-by-day.

Amsterdam is the birthplace of capitalism, We must replace it from here. This city is Ground Zero for cannabis legalization, so…

There is no better place to launch a global cannabis revolution!

WHAT WE DO

WE RAISE MONEY TO FUND THE NON-PROFIT COFFEESHOP

We work within a global network of 100 indigenous communities

WE MOBILISE CREATIVE MINDS TO CREATE CHANGE THROUGH ART

The team

We believe wholeheartedly in the power of collaborations so everything we’ve helped make possible has involved a lot of people that come and go, dropping in when the time is just right. Despite this, we have a small team of four environmental revolutionists that keep us together.

Since we’re still a small organisation, everyone who works with us does so on a voluntary basis making us a completely non-profit organisation!

I started Green Revolution during the lockdown period. Researching our current global situation I came to an understanding that human greed is killing life on our planet.

The scientific community agrees that we have to re-organize a global civilization to avert total catastrophe. But we cannot do that while we are greedy. Green Revolution is to show that humanity can do otherwise.

I’m fortunate to work alongside people that inspire me every day. I learn something from every community I stay with, and I get to experience culture I could have never even dreamed that I can share with others. There is so much compassion in the world that isn’t seen in the media. So as much as what I do would qualify as a passion, I’ve been lucky to find my purpose.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Which communities do you work with and where are they based?

Although we have a focus on indigenous communities in the Amazon rainforest, we have a shared global network of over 100 different communities around the world. We take part in a knowledge-based sharing environment with these communities, it is a bilateral relationship where we learn and grow from each other. We must not see indigenous communities as victims that need our help, they are advocates who are deserving of our solidarity and partnership in their journey towards autonomy and preservation. A less direct approach is the funnelling of fundraising money to our partners at Treesistence who have an involved relationship with their Forest Guardians.

How are indigenous communities linked with the environment?

Indigenous communities are intrinsically linked with land that they live in and often view themselves as custodians of the environment, treasuring the harmonious relationship between the human species and mother nature.

A lot of discourse among communities in regard to cultural preservation is surrounding land. Ownership over land when in theory should belong to indigenous communities, is often stolen by corporations and governments. These powerful players exploit this land through deforestation, dumping landfill, and flooding soil with toxic wastewater. The bottom line is these corporations and governments rarely cherish the relationship between earth and humans.

Why did we choose weed coffeeshop as our medium?

We saw how the massive industry of weed in the Netherlands hadn’t been pushed to its social and environmental potential. We think something really amazing could come out of this previously recreational activity.

People are going to continue to enjoy weed coffeeshops, why not create climate action out of it!

What do you do now if the weed coffeeshop isn’t set up yet?

At the moment, we’re focused on organising events and campaigns to raise awareness for the cause and fundraise. We work in a partnership network of charities and non-profit organisations within this field, helping organise events where we’re needed as well.

When will the coffeeshop be ready?

While we don’t have a definitive date as it all relies on how much money we can fundraise, we hope to get it set up within the next few years. Patience is key!
